Riverside,
California, April 3, 2023:
The SoCal Microelectronics Symposium, sponsored by the Global Semiconductor
Association (GSA), was held successfully in the HUB at UC Riverside. The
Symposium features a Keynote Speech by Peter De Dobbelaere (CISCO Fellow) and a
Panel comprising outstanding industrial high-achievers, including Nitza Basoco (VP of proteanTecs), Shari Begun (VP of Sales, Renesas), Janet
Olson (VP of Research, CadenceShari Begun (VP of
Sales, Renesas) and Cindy Sun (Director of Engineering, Qualcomm). With a theme
of Pathways to Success, the Symposium aims to promote Microelectronics to
students of all levels, particularly those from Underrepresented Groups (URG).

UC
Riverside, November, 2022:
Created jointly by Prof. Albert Wang of UCR and Prof. Behzad Razavi of UCLA,
the “Creative ECEs: UCLA-UCR Design Contest” was successfully
conducted in Fall 2022. Sponsored by IEEE Electron Devices Society, Samsung and
Mediatek, the Contest aims to engage undergraduate
students, particularly those from underrepresented groups (URG), to participate
in hands-on design activities in the broader ECE field. About 40 students
participated in the Contest and presented their designs in the Design Contest
Symposium.

- ASA-SEMI, February 2022: The American
Semiconductor Academy (ASA) and SEMI
announced the ASA-SEMI
Partnership to establish a national platform for semiconductor
workforce development, aiming to address the nationwide shortage of
microelectronics workforce. The ASA-SEMI Partnership released its Vision
Paper on semiconductor workforce development, entitled “Fueling
American Innovation & Growth”, which contributed directly to
the Chips Act.
- ASA, June 2021: Prof. Albert Wang initiated and co-founded the American
Semiconductor Academy (ASA) Initiative, aiming to establish a National
Network of Microelectronics Education. The founding team and ExCom include:
Prof. Tsu-Jae King Liu (Chair, UC Berkeley),
Prof. Kang L. Wang (UCLA), Prof. Stephen Goodnick
(Arizona State University), John Dallesasse
(UIUC), Prof. Mark Lundstrom (Purdue University) and Prof. Quanxi Jia (SUNY Buffalo). ASA involves more than 60
universities and same number of community colleges around USA, and
endorsed by more than 45 companies.
